Tokyo Tuesday – Japan’s top five winter hotspots
I haven’t got any trips planned for a while so I’ll fall back on the usual routine of raving about my favourite country I’ve visited to date…Japan. Not strictly a Tokyo based post this week, but I’ll try to justify it by saying that if you are visiting or living in Tokyo over the winter months it really is worth getting out and seeing a bit more of Japan as it has so much to offer over the colder, snowy months…

Escape to the mountains – a weekend in Kamikochi
As Kamikochi, in the northern Japanese Alps, is closed for half the year due to winter weather we made sure to slot in a weekend trip to this beautiful mountainous area before the roads were closed.

Kamakura
Just an hour or so outside of the centre of Tokyo, Kamakura is the perfect day trip for a change of scenery from the hustle, bustle and bright lights of Japan’s capital city.
Tokyo Tuesday – the top five cultural curiosities you can’t miss

I by no means pronounce this a definitive list, but based on my experience to date the below are the top five traditional cultural sights that you should definitely try to fit in on a trip to Tokyo.
Castles and cold noodles – a weekend in Matsumoto!
I’ve always loved the architecture of Japanese castles – the contrast between their simplicity and magnificence. So naturally, from the moment I set foot in Japan I couldn’t wait to visit a castle or two. And a trip to Matsumoto quickly made it to the top of my destination list.
